Hi all
We want to upgrade from SAP GUI 7.20 to SAP GUI 7.30 (some of them are already 7.30 SP 0) soon but I have the following problem:
On many (200+) of our clients SAP GUI wasn't installed from an installation server but from a local source. Therefore I created a .reg file which changes the source in the registry as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAP Shared]
"SapCreateKey"=dword:00000000
"SAPSetupDir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\SAP\\SAPsetup"
"SAPsourcedir"="\\\\<netshare>\\InstServer"
"SAPDestDir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\SAP\\FrontEnd"
"SAPsysdir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\SAP\\FrontEnd\\SapGui"
When I now start the GUI on a client (Windows 7, SAP GUI 7.30 SP 0) and try to get an upgrade notification from the server (open it max. 10 times), nothing happens. I first though this is caused by the missing share so I created a .bat to get a share with "net use":
net use \\<netshare>\InstServer
Windows says the command was executed successful but the update notification still doesn't show up.
Anything else I have forgotten? Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
Jann
Could someone explain the functionality of instruction codes/keys for FI of SAP IHC module?
I understand that in a way it's connected with creation of payment requests but the mechanism is not obvious.
The configuration points to be considered are:
1. SPRO>Financial Supply Chain Management>In-House Cash>Account management>Payment process in In-House Cash>Outgoing payment orders>Instructions for FI.
2. SPRO>Financial Supply Chain Management>In-House Cash>Account management>Payment process in In-House Cash>Outgoing payment orders>Set up creation of payment requests for inbound IDOC in FI>Processing parameters.
Thank you.
Hi
I am trying to get access to the UI Theme Designer.
Both services:
/sap/public/bc/themes
are activated. The authorization object "/UI5/THEME" is assigned to my user as mentioned on the following URL Prerequisites - UI-Technologien in SAP NetWeaver - SAP Library.
Anyway, if I try to open the Theme Designer with the transaction "/UI5/THEME_DESIGNER" on the backend system, the following error occurs:
ErrorCode: 511, Message: Network Authentication Required
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Thomas Maier
SAP GUI is SAP's universal client for accessing SAP functionality in SAP applications such as - SAP ERP, SAP Business Suite (SAP CRM, SAP SCM and SAP PLM), SAP Business Intelligence and so on. SAP GUI functions like a browser. It gets information from the SAP server like what, where, when and how, to display contents in its window. All members of the SAP GUI family have unique attributes that make them especially suited for different user environments. SAP GUI comes in the following three different flavors:
SAP GUI for Windows
SAP GUI for Windows is an implementation especially designed for the Windows operating system, providing a Windows-like user experience and integration with other applications, based on OLE interfaces or ActiveX controls.
SAP GUI for the Java Environment
SAP GUI for the Java environment is a unified SAP frontend for multiple platforms. It is based on a platform-independent architecture and Java implementation. As a major benefit, it provides access to SAP applications that are based on Control-Enabling and therefore used to be reserved for Windows users in the past. Please, note that SAP GUI for Java is also available on Windows.
SAP GUI for HTML
SAP GUI for HTML automatically maps the screen elements in SAP transactions to HTML using HTML Business functions available within the SAP Internet Transaction Server. A web browser is sufficient to access almost all transactions. Please note: Since SAP GUI for HTML is an application running on the ITS, you find corresponding information on the ITS page.
You can find detailed information on the different SAP GUI types under the following links:

General Information
Frontend Network Requirements (SMP Login required!)
Distributed landscapes today lead to the fact that an increasing number of users connect to a central system from dispersed sites with varying degrees of available bandwidth. As a consequence, user access is through local area network (LAN) and wide area network WAN (dial-up, frame relay, Internet, etc.). This paper contains a description of SAP's frontend characteristics from both a LAN and a WAN perspective.
Please note that this paper does not discuss server-to-server traffic or printing.
SAP GUI Technical Infrastructure
The purpose of this guide is to give you an understanding of the different SAP GUI types, their specific properties and how they communicate with the SAP system. Also, it explains the performance requirements of the infrastructure and describes trouble-shooting options.

Hi, I have installed the new SAP Gui 7.20 patch 1 on 2 machines at my company. On one machine we can easily change the color settings for each theme. On the other PC, we can not go into "Configure Color Settings" to change the colors for any theme. The button is greyed out. I followed the extact same installation procedure and have the same access to both as well.
Has anyone seen this issue before and know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Marty
We brought out server and instance down for windows update and other updates. Now we are getting this error message now under the GUI properties.
We are able to log in without any issues so this is not much an emergy but I still like to know what is causing this message. Clicking on 'OK' doesn't remove this message.
Any ideas?
thanks
Hello,
1) I have deployed a SapSetup distribution server 9.0.41 (latest) on a master server (where all config changes are made)
I have imported the products
I have created my packages
2) I installed another SapSetup distribution server using the command :
\\server\SAPGUI7_30\Setup\NwCreateInstServer.exe /Dest=\\distribserver\SAPGUI7_30 /Nodlg
This ended successfully.
I have updated the configuration of a package on the master server (so went from version 1 of the package to version 2)
So I wanted to update the other distribution server so that they have the same package configuration, with the following command :
\\server\SAPGUI7_30\Setup\NwUpdateInstServer.exe /Dest=\\distribserver\SAPGUI7_30\Setup\ /nodlg
The process end in error and I cannot figure out why ? This is the error I get on the NwUpdateInstServer.log :
NwSvrUpdte 1E Update Server reported errors, returning 48
So I started looking the log and the only errors I have are these :

Still, says updated completed successfully, but package version on the server distribserver, are still in version 1 and not version 2, so they were not updated.
Any ideas ? I don't know why it keeps asking for these packages as I have not asked to be installed on the package....I have removed and resintalled the reference server, and same deal. I can create the servers, but cannot update them.
Thanks in advance.

Hello all,
We've come across a new error in the 7.30 SAPGUI that is not fixed in Patch 6 Hotfix 1. If you use the standard, out-of-the-box mode for F4 search helps, certain fields cannot be sorted in the F4 'hit list'. As an example, choosing the 'Organizational Unit' field from an infoset in SAP Query as a selection field, you cannot sort the list of org units by name, nor even start or stop dates for org units. Session tracing reveals a "bad index" error in program SAPTABControl.1, module WDTTab Control, method refreshResultTable. It looks like sapwdtaocx.ocx is the offending component.
There is a workaround, which is to switch F4 mode to Modal (Dialog). However, we'd prefer to use the Amodal default.
The error is new in 7.30. It didn't occur in SAPGUI 7.20.
I've logged a Customer Message about it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this error?
Best regards,
Matt

Hey all, our company has begun using SAP Screen Personas 2.0. We are a smaller company, so they've added Personas to my list of duties (normally working with BASIS roles). I've seen many help/how-to videos by SAP Imagineering, such as the link posted up top, and was wondering where to obtain the SAP branded Transaction box like they have at the end of that video. If anyone knows, that would be a huge help to me going forward.
Do you consider the „Local Tab Order“ Feature in SAP GUI for Windows useful for your organization?
Remark for those, who do not know this feature yet: You find a short introduction in the corresponding blog.
We, the SAP GUI team, would like to find out your opinion concerning the new Local Tab Order feature in SAP GUI:
SAP screens often contain a variety of fields and other screen elements that are not necessary to fulfill a specific task. To make life easier for you, you can change the TAB sequence on SAP screens so that you do not have to ‘tab’ your way through the whole screen. The new TAB order functionality allows you to jump from one screen element to the next, thus creating a tab chain containing only fields of interest.
To use Local Tab Chain proceed as follows:
On either a dynpro field, a radio button or a checkbox, use CTRL+RIGHT CLICK to invoke the extended context menu.
In the extended menu, you find the following options:
After trying this out, please, let us know more about your opinion in the corresponding poll.
Hi everyone,
We use a centralised saplogon.ini and set the environment variable SAPLOGON_INI_FILE on our users profiles so that they all access the same centrally managed saplogon.ini.
Now with SAPgui 7.20, the SapLogonTree.xml file is created in the same location as the saplogon.ini ... this is nice and obviously when using the SAPLOGON_INI_FILE or /INI_FILE options implies that it is central to all users.
However I do have a couple of issues with this.
Firstly the SapLogonTree.xml is a great idea, however the fact that it has a Favorites and Shortcuts area implies that each user should be able to drag their own selection of systems into the favorites area and/or create their own shortcuts.
Through a bit of testing if you drag a new favorite, then everyone gets this new favorite. Kind of amusing when a bunch of users start dragging/deleting systems from the Favorites area all impacting each others options.
Ideally I would like to be able to hide the favorites and shortcut options in the saplogon pad. Or allow the use of a central saplogon.ini but using a user specific/distributed SapLogonTree.xml.
Anyone had a play with this??
Cheers
Shaun
Hello SCN experts,
I am working on a rollout of SAP GUI 7.30 to OS X Mountain Lion and am having issues getting SSO to work. I have been able to install the GUI and logon to systems successfully with username and password. I need to get SSO working as password logon will be unacceptable for our users. My problem is finding a library that will work as expected.
I have tried using the Kerberos library that is packaged on OS X without success. This solution did not help, http://scn.sap.com/thread/2011188. Each time I open SAP GUI using this library the application simply crashes. Any search online so far has not helped to resolve this issue. I am hoping that someone here has had experience getting Kerberos SSO working on SAP GUI 7.30 for Java on OS X Mountain Lion.
Dear Experts,
I do have a client running SAP Gui 7.20 PL08 on his PC. Unfortunately they have missed
to upgrade their desktop software and also SAP Gui - but want now to execute modern
UI Elements. Nevertheless to make sure, that my developments will run also under
SAP Gui 7.20 PL08 I'm looking for that piece of software to download.
In SWDC (software download catalog) via Support Portal you'll get only the newest release
for the SAP Gui. Has anybody an idea from where I can retrieve the old version?
Thanks in advance for your support.
With best regards...
...Hans
May be you all must be knowing it but i found it very useful ( since habbit of forgetting password ) so thought of sharing this with you .So that you can quickly open and close sessions without wasting time in manually typing password or selecting the environment.
Create a new SAP shortcut, for the system you want to logon.
As you can see above, By default SAP disabled the ability for users to save password. To enable it you need to tweak your Windows Registry
Steps -
1. Enable Password Field in SAP – .
1.Open the SAP logon screen, then click ‘New Item’ button.
2. In the ‘Create New SAP Shortcut’ window fill in the title, user, password fields. Select the System Description manually using the drop down, then press next
As you can see above ,Password is enabled now
3.In the next screen keep the working directory as default ( no need to change ). Adjust the Window Size based on your preference and once complete please press and your shortcut should appear on the SAP logon screen and also on your desktop.
Next time you double click on the shortcut on the SAP Logon Pad, it will use the saved password from the text file
and won’t ask you for a password. And if your password is changed you can update in that shortcut directly by right click-->properties and give new password and close it simple .
Hope it proves Useful

Hi,
I need to track the total time a particular user has worked in SAP for a particular period. Say a week, month or so. Is there any standard method or do I need to do to fetch such report. Also can I achieve like that user is logged in with which IP along with its hostname ?
Will be glad to hear from my experts. I know this is very basic question but I am sure will find a way for this.

Hemant
